Bevacizumab, sold under the trade name Avastin, is medication used to treat a number of types of cancers and a specific eye disease. Bevacizumab is vascular endothelial growth factor directed antibody. Bevacizumab is a recombinant humanized monoclonal IgG1 antibody that contains human framework regions and murine complementarity-determining regions. Bevacizumab has an approximate molecular weight of 149 kDa. Bevacizumab is produced in a mammalian cell (Chinese Hamster Ovary) expression system in a nutrient medium containing the antibiotic gentamicin. Gentamicin is not detectable in the final product.
Bevacizumab is supplied at a concentration of 25 mg/mL as a sterile, clear to slightly opalescent, colorless to pale brown solution, which contains 60 mg/mL α,α-trehalose dihydrate, 5.8 mg/mL sodium phosphate, 1.2 mg/mL sodium phosphate, 0.4 mg/mL polysorbate 20, and Water for Injection.
